Luca Martinelli is Venture Partner at b2venture. Before that he was part of the flagship b2venture Fund Team, having joined the firm in 2013 after several years as an entrepreneur.

Luca co-founded his first company while he was completing his bachelor’s degree, which became a leading provider of education and learning services for applicants, students, and graduates across the DACH region. A couple years later, he helped start a second company, talendo, which today is Switzerland’s largest job platform for students, graduates, and young-professionals.

“I like to build things, so you could say I became a venture investor by accident.”

He got his start at b2venture after writing his master’s degree on venture capital and wanting to get some practical experience at a venture capital firm.

“After I left talendo, I wanted to do something with entrepreneurship but wasn’t looking to start a new company. When I began at b2venture, I quickly got put in charge of opening the firm’s first office in Berlin, so it felt right - learning more about the mechanics of venture investing while being able to build something as well.”

Luca long harbored dreams of becoming an architect and has an abiding passion for architecture and design, but opted for business and mechanical engineering instead.

“I made a conscious decision to take another path that was more business-focused and less based on my aesthetic inclinations, although I am a hopeless perfectionist.”

Luca also sees entrepreneurship as a fundamentally creative act that continues to inspire him.

“It’s pretty amazing and fascinating for me to see companies and entrepreneurs reinvent themselves over and over again.”
